Mission
Help preserve open and free AI for humanity's future
The Svalbard Global Seed Vault stores crop seeds against catastrophe — not because anyone expects every crop to vanish tomorrow, but because redundancy is cheap compared to extinction. AI Seedbank does the same for the weights of open AI models. Open weights today live on a handful of for-profit endpoints: one policy change, one licensing dispute, one quiet deprecation away from disappearing. We keep verified copies circulating as torrents, so no single event can delete them.
The four pillars
Permanence
Once a model is published here it stays fetchable. The torrent swarm plus HTTP webseeds outlive any single host — including this site.
No limits
No accounts, no API tokens, no rate gates, no regional blocks. A modem in any country gets the same bytes as a datacenter.
Censorship resistance
Distribution is a swarm anyone can join and mirror. There is no single server to pressure, subpoena, or switch off.
Verified integrity
Every payload is re-hashed and checked against upstream Hugging Face metadata at fetch time, with the exact revision pinned in a manifest that is signed with minisign. You never trust a mirror — you verify.
Neutrality & non-commercial stance
Seedbank is neutral about what it archives: if a model's license is open, it qualifies — regardless of who trained it or what it's for. The project is non-commercial: no ads, no paid tiers, no analytics trade, no preferential treatment. The archive serves everyone or it means nothing.
How it's funded
Seed host, storage, and bandwidth run on donations — about $500/mo at current catalog size. If the mission matters to you, fund the swarm →
